Magic Earth Navigation & Maps is a privacy-friendly navigation app. On Android Automotive OS (AAOS), it brings turn-by-turn navigation, offline maps, live traffic, and worldwide map coverage directly to your car’s built-in screen, no phone required.

Magic Earth is designed around privacy: we don’t track you or build a profile from your trips. It also works fully offline once maps are downloaded, so you can keep navigating without a data connection. Magic Lane, the company behind Magic Earth, is European-based, with a strong focus on data protection and independence from big-tech data ecosystems.

Magic Earth Navigation & Maps for AAOS runs on cars built on Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, cars that have Google apps and the Google Play Store on their built-in screen. A simple rule of thumb: if you can open the Google Play Store on your car’s display, you can install Magic Earth.

It’s confirmed working on vehicles from a growing list of manufacturers, including:

• Renault (OpenR Link), as well as the related Alpine, Nissan (NissanConnect), Mitsubishi, and Renault Trucks systems

New cars are added as more Android Automotive models with Google built-in reach the market.

The app runs on cars using Android Automotive OS, starting from Android 10. You’ll get the best experience on Android 12 and newer; on some older builds (such as Android 10) certain features may be limited, for example, showing the map on the instrument cluster.

Open the Google Play Store on your car’s screen, search for “Magic Earth Navigation & Maps,” and install it like any other app. Once installed, open it from your car’s app launcher.

The AAOS version runs directly on your car and uses your car’s built-in internet connection for live services like search and traffic. Once you’ve downloaded offline maps, navigation itself keeps working even without a connection.

Yes. You can download maps for the countries and regions you need and navigate entirely offline, no internet connection required while driving. Offline maps also help the app run more smoothly, since map data doesn’t need to be streamed.

Some cars use older, less powerful processors, which can make the interface feel less responsive. A few settings can noticeably improve performance:

• Set the map quality to Low: Settings → Map → Map Quality → Low. This makes the biggest difference.
• Turn off 3D buildings (in Map Layers settings).
• Turn off elevation (in Map Styles settings), as 3D terrain is more demanding to render.

Making sure you’re on the latest version from the Play Store also helps, as we continually improve performance.

Yes. When Magic Earth Navigation & Maps is installed from the Google Play Store, both Google Assistant and Gemini can be used for navigation. Gemini works once the app is installed. For Google Assistant, set Magic Earth as your default navigation app in the settings so that voice commands (for example, “navigate to…”) open in Magic Earth.

On supported cars, Magic Earth can display turn-by-turn guidance on the instrument cluster during navigation. Cluster support depends on your car and its Android Automotive OS version.

Privacy is at the core of Magic Earth. We don’t track you, we don’t build advertising profiles, and we don’t sell your data. Your location is used only to provide navigation and is processed with your privacy in mind.

No. Magic Earth does not track your movements or store a history of your trips to profile you. Navigation happens on your device, and offline maps mean much of your usage doesn’t require sending data anywhere at all.

Here is how to do it:

1. In the app, choose “Purchase license”.
2. A QR code appears on your car’s screen. Scan it to open our website, where you can buy your license.
3. The app keeps checking in the background while you complete payment, and activates automatically once the purchase is finished.

If you already own a Magic Earth mobile license, you can paste it during checkout to get a discount on the AAOS version.

Here is how to do it:

1. In the app, choose “Subscription”.
2. Press “Subscribe”.
3. A Play Store screen will ask you to complete the purchase on the device signed in with the same Google account. You’ll also receive a notification on that device.
4. Open that notification and complete the payment flow. Once it’s done, the app activates automatically.

The Play Store subscription includes a 14-day free trial before the first charge, and renews yearly. Please note that the mobile-license discount is not available with the Play Store subscription.

The AAOS version of Magic Earth Navigation & Maps is a paid app. It costs €14.99 per year, or the equivalent in your local currency. You can activate it in one of two ways: a yearly license purchased from our website, or a yearly subscription through the Google Play Store.
